NJS Builder × BROTURES collaboration fram...

The second collaboration frame between DONTZER's NJS builders and BROTURES is an adventure bike.

The elegant Jaguar Green frame is perfect for city use, off-roading, and trackcross racing. The HANDEMADE IN JAPAN frame "DON FANGO" is a perfect match for this era that demands diversity.

The first product is the "DON CLASSICO," a pure track bike inspired by Keirin.

The number of Japanese builders is steadily decreasing year by year. This project aims to continuously convey their advanced techniques and artistic sensibilities to the world. With this in mind, the theme of the previous work, CLASSICO, was "traditional inheritance."

The second model is named FANGO. "FANGO = mud". The previous CLASSICO was a bike designed for city streets, but the FANGO is an adventure bike designed for a wider range of terrain.

Like the CLASSICO, it is designed to accommodate thick tires needed for off-road riding as well as being suitable for riding in urban areas, and all pipes are made from durable chromoly material to ensure it is strong enough to withstand trick play.

So this time, we'll be taking a look at the appeal of FANGO in six parts, with as much content as possible.

[All the necessary elements for an adventure bike are fully equipped!]

First of all, it's important. I want to emphasize that "it can fit wide tires." In the past, fixed gear bikes could only fit up to 28mm tires, but this FANGO frame is designed for riding off-road as well as in the city! You can also enjoy tricks! In order to achieve a highly versatile ride, it is designed to fit wide tires as large as 35mm.

I think that there is no chromoly frame made by a keirin builder that can fit fat tires anywhere, and that this DON FANGO is probably the only one. This machine, which requires even harder braking, has a V-brake (cantilever brake) base, but also has a frame that is complete with mounting holes for caliper brakes . With the diversification of riders, we are now in an era where bicycles are required to do various things in various situations. For example, if you replace your current fixed gear bike with a FANGO, you can use most of the parts as they are, and if you want to take it to the mountains or camping and ride on trails, you can use V-brakes or cantilever brakes. Such compatibility is also attractive.

[The main material chosen is an unconventional and extremely hard pipe!?]

The down tube, top tube, and head tube make up the frame. The front triangle is luxuriously made of TANGE's CHAMPION No. 3. It is made of a tough material commonly known as "HEAVY DUTY TUBE" and is carefully manufactured one by one by craftsmen. Originally, this No. 3 is known as a pipe that supports the hard riding of BMX and mountain bikes, but it is rarely used for fixed gear bikes. It is simply hard and sturdy.

Also, if we used this pipe in every section, the bike would be too stiff and simply difficult to ride. Therefore, we used the lightweight and flexible pipe No. 2 adopted by CLASSICO only for the seat tube that extends under the seat. The difference in thickness is only 0.1mm, but this was an innovative idea that dramatically changed the pedaling feel and pressure on the buttocks more than the numerical value.

[The look is distinctively thick, unlike any other chromoly frame]

The FANGO this time is characterized by its form, which is made up of slightly thicker pipes rather than the 25.4mm or 28.6mm thickness seen in typical chromoly frames and NJS frames. It stands out from the simple, slim chromoly frames you often see. The top tube is 34.9mm, and the down tube is 38.1mm. It's hard to visualize from the numbers, but it's quite thick in person, giving it a very fresh look for a chromoly frame.

Other than that, the seat stays are made of Kaisei pipes and the chain stays are made of COLUMBUS. The fork is also luxuriously made of COLUMBUS. Handmade frames are overwhelmingly advantageous and beneficial in that they allow you to select the most effective tubes for each section. This is impossible with mass-produced factory-made frames.

[A miraculous geometry that allows you to ride off-road and has excellent acceleration]

This is the ultimate machine that combines the acceleration required for riding in the city with the maneuverability required for riding off-road. Generally, off-road bikes have a long wheelbase and a flat head and seat angle. This allows for a stable ride. Therefore, many people may think that the FANGO is not as comfortable to ride in the city as other fixed gear bikes. However, this FANGO has a high BB height and a steep seat angle, which are aggressive geometry inherited from track bikes, making it a miraculous frame that even has acceleration performance .

What you can feel is that the frame itself feels solid when you hold it because it is made of a highly rigid material, but it feels very light when you ride it. The frame is characterized by its smooth start-up.

[If you load your luggage, a two-day, one-night bicycle camping trip is no longer a dream]

One interesting gimmick of this frame is the eyelet hole on the rear end. This makes it possible to attach a rear carrier. This structure has never been seen on NJS frames before. The presence or absence of this greatly changes the possibilities as an adventure bike. A single tent, cot, chairs and a table. This amount of gear can be loaded on the rear, and a front rack can also be installed to carry clothes and food.

I would love for you to try this new way of playing in the coming season. Movement becomes your gear, and movement becomes your play.

[Thoughts that DONTZER's NJS builder had while creating FANGO]

Actually, this DONTZER×BROTURES project was put together by Tom Okazaki of TR Co., Ltd., who used to work as a mechanic at BROTURES. That's why I'm even more excited about it.

This exquisite frame was carefully welded one by one by TR, who is rapidly growing as one of the few handmade builders in Japan. TR is a keirin builder and devotes himself to making frames every day, and of course he hand-makes vehicles that are specialized for "speed". According to the builder, this FANGO is a frame that focuses on strength and rigidity. This is a first for TR, and I feel that this collaboration has realized a new challenge on a global scale.

It is no exaggeration to say that this frame truly symbolizes the age of diversification. These six frames are the appeal of FANGO.

However, there are still many specs and details packed into this frame that I can't mention here. Please check out the YouTube video of BROTURES' chief mechanic, Mr. Fujimoto.

Only 15 units are available, and this precious frame is made to order. Who will get it? Use it for commuting and enjoy outdoors on your days off from the city. All of these luxuries can be achieved with this one bike.

This spring, summer and fall, why not discover a new lifestyle with DON FANGO?
