First, regarding LEGACY, we would like to introduce you to the material called chromoly, which was chosen as the " Modern and Classic " material that is the basis of the product.

There are many materials that can be used to make fixed gear bike frames, such as aluminum, carbon, and titanium, but the oldest material is still steel. When you look into the material steel, there are many different types, such as chromoly and high-tensile steel, with different prices and performance.

Among them, the one used in this model is 4130 chromoly double-butted tubes.

First of all, what is chromoly? What is butted?

This is a topic I hear often in stores, so I'd like to write about it here.

What is Chromoly? It is a material made by mixing chromium and molybdenum with iron . As mentioned above, it is the oldest material and is used by world-famous tube companies such as COLUMBUS, TANGE, KAISEI, and REYNOLDS.

This is also a frequently asked question, and anyone who knows a lot about bicycles must have heard of double-butted or triple-butted. But what about in general? I can fully understand why you might be wondering. So I'll explain it with images.

In this image, the top one is triple butted. The second one is double butted. If there is a butt , it is a reinforcement to give strength to the tube. It is called "XX butted" depending on how many different thicknesses it has. The more thicknesses there are, the lighter it can be and the more strength it can provide. Conversely, if there is no thickness, it will be heavy but very strong. And the LEGACY this time uses double butts.

Since the main battlefield of this frame is street riding (for urban areas), the intention was probably to make it as light as possible while ensuring the strength to withstand intense riding. If it was triple butted, it would be too expensive and would not be strong enough for city riding. I think that the final answer was to adopt double butting.

What's more, it is also seamless. As the name suggests, seamless means that there are no seams. Generally, inexpensive bicycle pipes have welded seams, so they cannot compete with seamless pipes in terms of strength or rigidity. The frame transmits the force of pedaling thousands or tens of thousands of times to the wheel, so even if the material is the same, differences in manufacturing method can make a huge difference. If you want to transmit power honestly, there is no other choice but to choose seamless pipes.

In the late 1990s, the fixed gear bike movement rose and was loved all over the world, and bicycles were no longer just for transportation. From there, we entered the 2020s, and in addition to the street riding that has continued since then, we are now in an era where people want to do more with these vehicles, such as tricks and playing off-road. LEGACY, which advocates modern and classic styles, accurately reflects the background of this era.

Chromoly is generally heavy. But for some reason it moves so smoothly.

My first impression when I rode this frame was that it was surprisingly smooth . To be honest, the chromoly material mentioned above is heavy. Carbon and aluminum are generally lighter, of course. So I was really impressed with how light it is. It's all down to the geometry (frame design).

I would like to continue the discussion based on this table, but it will be a bit of a geeky story. However, it is something that I would like everyone who is interested in LEGACY to know, so please do your best to read it! lol

First, the size chart shows F (BB drop), J (HEADTUBE ANGLE), and K (SEATTUBE ANGLE). In fact, this is exactly the same design as the 735TR, which LEADER has released as the fastest street machine. Made of aluminum and carbon, the LEGACY incorporates the three numbers that are the identity of the 735TR, which has been active not only in urban areas but also in various race scenes, into a chromoly frame. This is also the main reason why it is called a modern classic.

And then there's the I (CHAIN STAY) section. This is the section of the frame that holds the rear wheel. This pipe is made quite short. All sizes have a length of 380, which is close to the LEADER ANGELINO and we suspect is inspired by the KAGERO, Tyran Bikes' flagship model.

What on earth will be created by this F/J/K design and the short chain stays? I think it will be "agile riding" all over again.

First, the bottom bracket drop. If this is high, the bike will turn sharply and cleanly just by leaning your body slightly. A value of 50 is generally high, and a certain brand's chromoly bike in the same price range prioritizes stability over off-road performance, so 55 to 58 is the norm. This is also the insistence of the founder of TYTANT BIKES, and is a key part of a bike frame that will allow you to ride at the fastest and with the most agility.

And the head tube and seat tube angles. Simply put, this determines whether your riding posture is forward or backward. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and it is generally accepted that a more upright angle means you are more focused on starting to pedal, while a more slack angle makes it easier to maintain cruising speed and is more suited to long rides. The LEGACY is 75°, which is generally a more upright angle. This has also been inherited from the LEADER 735TR. This creates a logic behind the sensation that "even though it is not made of light materials, it feels strangely light as you move forward."

Finally, the chain stays. The 380 is generally quite short. The benefit here is the fast reaction speed . The speed at which the force applied to the pedals is transmitted to the frame is very fast. There is no doubt that this LEGACY feels abnormally fast. To make the most of the short chain stays, the seat tube has a distinctive cutout made using LEADER's specialty hydroforming process, which has succeeded in shortening the wheelbase to the limit.

I don't want a solid sense of stability, but rather the feeling of slipping through crowded city streets, instantaneous acceleration, and smooth cornering. The behavior is surprisingly smooth, and I believe it provides an acceleration feeling never before seen in any other chromoly frame .

Let your sense of style shine through! Customize your bike with a highly expandable frame.

That's a bit of a complicated story, so let's loosen up our heads for a moment. The key to customization is subtraction. Adding is easy, but subtracting is difficult. I've been proposing this to customers for a long time, but with this frame I want you to discard that concept. You can see the intention of the product from the various gimmicks.

First of all, it can accommodate wide tires. This is its most distinctive feature.

Generally speaking, most people would imagine a mountain bike when they hear about a bicycle that can fit thick tires. However, the LEGACY is intended for city riding. Yes, the main field is urban areas, not mountains. The advantage of using thick tires is stability. I myself, the manager of the Harajuku store, will be 38 this year. Unlike the riding I enjoyed in my 20s, I am now at an age where I want a comfortable and easy ride from my fixed gear bike. I'm sure many people who experienced the beginnings of the movement feel the same way.

The LEGACY has clearance for a maximum of 35c. Although some tires cannot be installed, the look and performance are clearly different from the 23mm and 25mm tire sizes that have been used on LEADER, TYRANT BIKES, and DOSNOVENTA.

Uneven asphalt, unexpected lost items, steps, bad roads, crowds, wind. Even in Japan, where roads are well maintained, there is always a wealth of information. Even simply riding can lead to unexpected trouble if you don't pay attention to various things. If you want to enjoy a relaxed ride under these conditions, you have no choice but to select tires of about 32mm-35mm, and this has not changed in recent years. In addition, in the Tour de France, track races, and other competitions currently held around the world, most athletes are using tires of about 25mm-32mm and achieving high rankings, so the saying that thick tires are inferior to thin tires in terms of rotation performance is now considered obsolete.

The other is a dowel hole attached to the seat stay. This is a gimmick for attaching a rear rack, and as mentioned at the beginning, this structure was produced as a product of the era in which "diversity" is required. Attaching racks to the front and rear and storing a bag will make your daily commute easier. Load up a change of clothes and gear and go camping. Tie your board to it and use it as a transportation bike to the skate park. The interesting thing about this LEGACY is that you can enjoy customization that fully supports the rider's sense and lifestyle.

The last thing I want to talk about in terms of customization is that the frame was finished with a simple look. This is also a part that supports high scalability, for example, by installing polished wheels on the front and rear, or carbon wheels. You can finish it with colored parts, or you can finish it with chic black parts. Depending on the rider's sense, you can enjoy customization in a variety of ways. There is no concept that LEADER 735TR is XX, or DOSNOVENTA is XX. Please consider your sense, where and how often you ride, and choose the parts together. Yokohama store Junki's way of thinking and LEGACY, which was put together by former staff member Nori , are useful references!

"SON OF SON" From son to son

The word LEGACY literally means "legacy." There is a famous word in the motorcycle industry, a culture that I am in love with, SON OF SON. From son to son. BROTURES is a group with the theme of passing on the experience cultivated over many years in the bicycle industry to future generations, fathers pass on their knowledge and experience to their children and watch them grow. This LEGACY is also a frame with the hope of running through this era and passing the baton to the next generation. It is a frame that uses chromoly, a material that symbolizes bicycles, and adapts the design and gimmicks to modern needs, and is the optimal frame that symbolizes the era, and we hope that it will be passed down to the next generation of riders. If we can see young people skidding spectacularly on 700c tires in the next 10 or 20 years, or even half a century from now, both BROTURES and LEGACY will have a reason to exist.

This time, I have covered a wide range of topics related to the LEGACY's design, including its distinctive off-road performance and how it is assembled.

And this is something I want to note.

This restock of LEGACY will be the last one available!!

I've written a long and rambling post, but this is the last shipment. Moreover, it seems there are less than 20 units. But there is a reason why I wrote this article with such passion. I want to carefully send each and every one of these bikes to the hands of people who truly love fixed gear bikes. This is the wish of all the staff at BROTURES.

We would be delighted if you would get on board this fixed gear bike and improve your lifestyle.
