Let’s get straight to the point, particularly addressing those who’ve been cruising on their stock bike for over a year. The first component you should consider upgrading is the HUB!

I’m not suggesting a complete wheel overhaul; a simple HUB change can revolutionize your riding experience. Imagine elevating your ride to a whole new level, akin to a quantum leap in cycling dynamics. First, let’s demystify the HUB. Essentially, it’s the round component at the center of your wheel. A typical wheel comprises four main parts: the rim (outer circle), spokes (thin lines radiating from the center), the HUB at the center, and the nipples (connecting the spokes to the rim).

In my view, the HUB is arguably the most crucial component. Why? Because the quality of the HUB directly impacts the wheel’s rotational efficiency. This means you’ll need 32 spokes, and consequently, your rim will also have 32 holes. The key here is to choose a 32H standard HUB during reassembly – a crucial detail to get right. Remember, changing the HUB often means changing the spoke length, so you’ll likely need to purchase new spokes as well. A single spoke costs about ¥100, so you’d need at least ¥3,200 for 32 spokes.
