Ask someone who has experience in deliver...

The long-awaited CMWC will be held next week.
Anyone can enter the delivery race, which is one of the main events, and BROTURES staff will also be participating!
I'm sure there are quite a few hurdles to suddenly participating in a race, but I'd like you to take the plunge and participate as a commemorative event!
Because it's definitely fun!

Today I interviewed Mittz and Ishida, who ran the delivery race at the last JCMC, so please use this as a reference!

Left → Ishida: Won a prize as a non-messenger in his first attempt at racing at JCMC.
Right → mittz : He pretends to be bossy, but he lost in the preliminary round.

--It was the first delivery race for both of you at the last JCMC, what were your impressions?
mittz``It really hit home to me that more than just the performance of your equipment or your physical strength, your ranking depends on how efficiently you can turn.''
IshidaThe key seems to be whether you can firmly remember the map. I thought it was clever to see some people pasting maps on the stems. ”

It's natural that the fastest person wins in a race, but that's not the case in a delivery race.
On the other hand, even if you're not that confident in your legs, you still have a chance to win.
It seems important to be able to get around the checkpoints in as few steps as possible.

--This is a long delivery race, lasting only 2-3 hours from qualifying, but what was the gear ratio like?
Ishida``My ratio was 2.88, which was the usual ratio.''
mittz``Since it was a race, I was excited to use the 3.11 gear ratio, but it was a failure...Since it's basically a lot of stop-and-go, I'd like to try a gear ratio that I'm used to riding next time.''

It's a race where you have to stop many times, push and run, and even have to carry your bike on your back, just like you do as a messenger running around town.
It seems that the best gear ratio for me is to have a stress-free gear ratio for city driving.

--Are there any customizations suitable for delivery races?
IshidaPersonally, there were many situations where it was faster to carry things in my hands instead of putting them in a bag, so I think wide risers are better because they give more stability. ”
mittz``I think it's better to pack as much stuff as possible into a big bag. Also, although it's not a custom bike, there was a section where I had to lock my bike, but rather than a U-lock, I had to lock it with a longer chain or wire. It was better.”

Since the race is held in an environment that is quite similar to real street riding, it seems important to have various gimmicks in mind.

ーーHow about your clothes?
mittz“I think any clothes that are easy to move in are fine.”
Ishida"I also push my bike while running, so denim might be tough for me. I don't really recommend binding shoes either."

Delivery races are not races that are competed only on bicycles, so it would be better to be able to respond flexibly.
Street riding is unpredictable.

Summary. .

・He's used to riding around town on a bike, and his clothes look good.
・A bike that can be handled roughly is good because you will be riding around with the bike parked there.
・The bag should be large and easy to access, or you can carry it by hand.

A light bike is an advantage, and there's no need to wear a tight cycling jersey, so it doesn't seem like you'll need any special preparations.
It's really amazing that CMWC is being held in Japan and in a place like Nissan Stadium!
So let's all run, eat, drink, play, and have fun!
