Because it is a single gear, we are parti...

Hello, this is Len.

Today's blog is about the parts that you should pay attention to because it is a fixie bike.
Fixie bikes don't have shifting.
There is only one speed in the front and rear, and when you drive, you always run in that gear ratio.

Naturally, when you're rowing, you start to worry about whether it's "heavy" or "light."
The controls for this are the crank, chainring, and cog.
You can change the weight when rowing with these three points.

First, the way to find out the gear ratio of your fixie bike is to count the number of teeth on the chainring and the number of teeth on the cog.
Divide that to find your current gear ratio.
The calculation formula is ``Number of teeth on chainring ÷ Number of teeth on cog = gear ratio.''
Well, if you look at the table below, you'll understand right away. If you can't get the table right away, do the calculations that way.

Which of these is generally suitable for city driving?
Generally it will be "2.70~2.94". A gear ratio below 3.00 will be easy for stop and go.

The default setting for LEADER is 3.00 or 3.09.
Yes, it's a little heavy. To be honest, it's not heavy enough to burn, but it's my first fixie bike, and this gear ratio is a little difficult.
Up to LEADER 721TR, CURE, and 725TR, the chainring is 48T and cog 16T, and 735TR is 49T x 16T.
How should we adjust from here? Let's change the cog.

If you change the cog from 16T to 17T, the gear ratio will be 2.82 or 2.88.
It's a gear ratio suitable for city riding as I mentioned earlier.
And there are even more benefits by making it 17T. It's called a skid point.

Skid point is a measure of how many places the tire will be scraped when skidding with the same pedal position.
With the above gear ratio of 3.00, the rear wheel makes exactly 3 revolutions for every pedal revolution, so the skid point is "1". Only one spot on the tire can be scraped.
The more skid points you have, the more evenly the tire will be consumed, allowing you to use the tire to its fullest lifespan.
In other words , the more skid points you have, the better.

Calculating skid points is a little complicated, so please refer to the quick reference table below.

You should have noticed this when you saw the 17T row. There are 17 in total.
That's right. Most non-divisible numbers, such as 17, are the same number.
That's why most of us piste bike riders use 17T.

So first, let's customize the cog and decide.
Then, adjust the gear ratio by changing the number of teeth on the chainring.

We will introduce the recommended cogs that we currently carry.

VELOBIKE TRACK COG ¥6,380-INTAX
If you want to try it out cheaply, this is it.
"Velobike" is a brand from New Zealand that develops parts from an athlete's perspective.
The price is reasonable and the quality is high. This is a cog with very good cost performance.

PHILWOOD TRACK COG ¥14,520-INTAX

PHILWOOD TRACK COG "SLR" ¥16,720-INTAX
Truck cog released by PHILWOOD. Features a mirror-polished finish.
It has a tough construction that is typical of the brand, and the teeth are accurate and can be used for a long time.
SLR is a meatless model and only 17T is made. I understand the importance of 17T.

MICHE PISTARD ORO TRACK COG ¥20,020-INTAX
MICHE truck cog made in Italy.
Developed with an emphasis on reducing friction, the chain is CNC-machined with high precision from high-hardness steel, allowing you to feel the smoothness of the chain release.
The surface is treated with tungsten carbide, which has a hardness comparable to that of diamond, which provides maximum durability against high loads and a high level of corrosion resistance.

Here are the recommended cogs. Please choose according to your preference.
And in order to finely set the gear ratio, a custom chainring is required.
It's like Cog's sidekick. To achieve what I call a gear ratio suitable for city riding, a 47T to 50T chainring is suitable.

This is my recommended chainring.

SUGINO MC144 CHAINRING ¥36,300-INTAX~
Out of all the chainrings from Sugino, this one is my favorite.
The top line of the ZEN series has a cutout on the back, but I imagine the MC is a fully cutout version of that.
The precision of the teeth is also the best, and I like this atmosphere.
Black is also available, so please use it to match your crank.

DIGIRIT CARBON CHAINRING ¥33,625-INTAX~
DIGIRIT is a revolutionary parts brand made from carbon.
The chainrings they produce are characterized by their lightness and precision. I think it's light because it's carbon.
In particular, the cut model in the photo is extremely light.
And the biggest feature is the unique pattern of this carbon. There are several patterns, so if you are interested, please contact us.

Customizing the chainring is one way, but customizing the entire crank is also a great option.
Especially in the LEADER series, the chainrings mentioned earlier cannot be attached to cranks other than 725TR and 735TR.
Therefore, a custom crank is inevitably required.

BROTURES ALLDAY CRANK SET ¥25,300-INTAX

Original crank that was newly released the other day.
In fact, it was sold in the past. Several years have passed since then, and they have returned with improved aluminum materials and other improvements.
Although this crank is affordable, the chainring standard is PCD144 and it comes with a 49T chainring from the beginning.

It's cheaper than the good chainrings mentioned earlier, and it's an excellent item that allows you to completely change the look.
It comes in black and polished, so it's great that you can choose according to your customization.
If you are riding with parts from a completed car, you may want to try this first.

It would be great if you read this blog and want to customize it a little.
A fixie bike is a simple vehicle. That's why I want them to stick to life-size images.
