If we're going to do it, let's do it righ...

Hey there, Toriyama here.

Every now and then, I'm going to talk about the nuts and bolts of our bikes, so today, I'm zeroing in on parts for those who love to get into the nitty-gritty details.

Let's focus on the powerhouse of fixed gear bikes: the crankset.

The better your crankset can convert your pedaling into forward motion, the more effortlessly and smoothly your bike will move.

That's the beauty of riding single-speed.

I'm here to talk about some top-notch items that, when paired with a great crankset, will elevate your ride even further.

If you're going to go through the trouble, you may as well do it right.

We're all about quality when it comes to upgrades, and I promise you, it's worth lending an ear to what I've got to share.

First up, let's talk about the MICHE Direct Crank PISTARD series:

  • 2.0 BLACK or SILVER for ¥44,880 (INC. TAX)
  • AIR version at ¥49,500 (INC. TAX)

These cranks offer an excellent entry point into direct cranksets, and their MADE IN ITALY pedigree is truly captivating.

Each crankset comes with a 50T chainring, but keep in mind that the bottom bracket (BB) is sold separately.

This allows you to choose the BB that best suits your needs without any unnecessary extras.

MICHE's BB standard is Hollowtech, which is compatible with SHIMANO. Similar standards can be found in products like the SG75 DD2.

Popular brands offering compatible BBs include WISHBONE and PHILWOOD.

Speaking of PHILWOOD, we've got a slight restock of colored BBs, so pick yours at the shop while supplies last.

Next, let's look at two NJS-certified gems:

SHIMANO DURA-ACE FC-7710 Octalink (Anodized) for ¥66,000 (INC. TAX)

SUGINO SUGINO75 CRANK SILVER for ¥47,200 (INC. TAX)

Both are favorites among competitive cyclists worldwide, known for their unparalleled precision.

Despite recent material shortages driving up prices, their performance makes them worth every penny.

The SG75 offers four BB rank options, making them versatile and allowing for a tailored fit for each rider.

For a unique twist, we have one DURA-ACE crankset in black, thanks to a special anodization process—usually, they're only available in silver.

This rare find is available at the regular price of ¥66,000 (INC. TAX), making it an exceptional deal.

If I were to customize these cranks, here's what I'd do: Pair the DURA black with DITIRIT's cutout type carbon chainring, which also suits the SUGINO75 black.

For the SG75 silver, I'd recommend the matching SUGINO chainring, especially the MC144 series, for its stunning looks.

I might be bending the rules by pairing a DURA-ACE silver crank with a SUGINO MC144, but that's just my style.

So, if you're going all-in on customizing your crankset, why not go the extra mile with the accompanying parts?

It's all about achieving that ultimate satisfaction and riding experience.
