Recommended Parts for Aspiring Trick Ride...

Hey everyone, it's Kazu again.

Following up on our previous blog about getting started with bike tricks, let's dive into Part 2, focusing on stems. Last time we talked about handlebars, so it only makes sense to cover stems next. In this post, we're zeroing in on "THOMSON" for our stem recommendations.

For those who might not be familiar, let's take a moment to talk about THOMSON. Founded in 1981 in Georgia, USA, THOMSON started as an aluminum parts manufacturer with extensive experience in computer-controlled machining equipment (CNC). They're known for their reliability and strong design principles, originally making parts for the leading companies in the aviation industry. Their products have become benchmarks for high-quality stems and seat-posts.

The journey began in the mid-90s when the founder, then a college student and MTB racer, created an innovative one-piece type bicycle seat-post for his daughter. This led to utilizing aerospace engineering to develop various bike parts. Today, THOMSON is not only a leader in CNC precision aerospace parts but also continues to create must-have items for cyclists, including industry-leading dropper posts, cutting-edge carbon fiber bars, and titanium parts.

It's clear there's a reason why THOMSON is a popular choice among riders. Personally, I've been using THOMSON for tricks for several years without any issues or complaints. They're not just functional but also have a great look.

When customizing stems, especially for tricks, length and angle are crucial factors:

・Short Stem, Upward Angle: Brings the handle closer to the saddle, making front-up tricks like wheelies easier.

・Long Stem, Downward Angle: Increases the distance from the handle to the saddle, favoring a forward-leaning position and making skids easier.

These are general guidelines, so consider the length of your top tube and what feels comfortable for you. Both short and long stems can be adapted to various tricks; it's all about finding the right balance and comfort for your riding style.

You might have seen this photo before – it's a testament to THOMSON's precision. I once forgot to tighten mine properly and still managed to ride, though I noticed a slight rattle. So, remember to tighten yours!

We have stems available for immediate customization in-store, so if you're interested, feel free to drop by or drop us an enquiry!
