A must-see, maniacal story for iron lovers.

The Yokohama store has a lot of enthusiastic staff, so the more obscure the parts, the more particular they are. This is also the case with the stem and column spacer that mechanic Kazamura briefly mentioned in his blog yesterday.

When talking about stems, most people probably think of aluminum stems such as those from THOMSON or DEDA.
But what's currently the talk of the town at the Yokohama store is this chromoly stem.

FAIRWEATHER MT-31 Side clamp stem

It features a slender silhouette that is different from aluminum stems.
By the way, this stem is a chromium stem highly recommended by "BOSS Junki from the Yokohama store."
Rugged,
What really appeals to me is that the steerer clamp is located on the side.

The manufacturing techniques used for CNC machining, like aluminum stems, are impressive, but personally I like chromium stems better because they give the feeling of handcrafted craftsmanship.

However, it is difficult for people to pick it up.
The reason is that it takes a lot of courage to match a chromium-moly stem to an aluminum frame like LEADER or DOSNOVENTA.
It is common to pair it with slim chromoly frames such as AFFINITY's METROPOLITAN or LO PRO, or CINELLI's GAZZETTA.

Most chromium stems have a handlebar clamp diameter of 25.4mm.
If you use a 25.4mm handlebar, it will look a bit flimsy when paired with the ANGELINO or LEGACY, which have the same chromium-moly frame.
This stem is recommended for such people.

SIMWORKS Rhonda Stem

I also introduced it in yesterday's ANGELINO custom blog.

The clamp diameter is 31.8mm and it is a 4 bolt specification.
It is possible to install 31.8mm MTB-style handlebars, and it is easy to replace the handlebars.

SIM WORKS creates parts that we wish we had.
We recommend this product as it is easy to match with most chromoly frames, including ANGELINO and LEGACY.

Both of the stems I just gave are This stem is made by NITTO, a world-renowned parts manufacturer in Japan.
Just knowing that it's NITTO makes it safe to use, and the fact that it's not a pretentious design but has a tarnished silver look is very endearing.

What do you think? Do you want to try using a chromoly stem?
If you're interested in giving it a try, read on to the end as we get into some nerdy stuff from here on out.

The column area of the chromium stem is also thin, so when combined with an aluminum column spacer, a step appears like this.

So, please put the same chromoly in the spacer as well.
This is what happens.

Feels good!
The staff beside the blog are sensitive to this line and get excited.

But this is still not enough.
This is used to reduce the gap with the head parts that spread out horizontally.

Downwardly tapered spacer.
Using this will reduce the gap with the head part.

You can see the difference if you compare them.
First, the regular spacers.

There is a gap and the fit is not satisfactory.

Now let's try using tapered spacers.

This is a Cinderella fit.
By using tapered spacers, the fit between the head part and the stem is perfect.
This is the best. Lol

As I mentioned in my blog the other day, I also had a stylish brass tapered spacer made for me by a bicycle shop in Tokyo called "BLUE LUG".
You can also enjoy it as an accent color.

Spacers can be purchased for around 1,000 yen, so choose one in the store and try changing it quickly.

I'm secretly thinking about buying a slim chromoly frame just so I can use the chromoly stem and make that line of the column spacer.

Please create a beautiful handlebar finish that will get us excited.
