Staff "Bag Check!" ~TATSU Edition~

Seriously? This is Tatsu from the Harajuku store.

This is the third installment of our Harajuku store staff's favorite bags. I've been waiting for this moment! It's finally my turn to introduce my bag, so I'll talk about it to my heart's content.

CRANK TOKYO ~SOLO Light~ ¥25,000 with tax

CRANK TOKYO has been making professional messenger bags since 2006. All processes are done by one craftsman , and the quality is very high. The SOLO Light that I carry is based on the SOLO Large used by professional messengers, but the depth and gusset have been reduced, so it is just the right size for me as a non-messenger. I saw some of my friendly messengers carrying CRANK bags, so I picked one up too.

When you think of messenger bags, you think of patches . I thought it would be fun to make an original messenger bag by sticking them on in my own way. When I saw the messenger bag that appeared at the beginning of the intro of MASH SF2007, 16 seconds into the video, I thought, I want to carry a bag like that.

My favorite patch is the one astronaut Mukai Chiaki wore when he went into space on the STS-95 mission. Like the patches of other astronauts, this patch is sold in the JAXA souvenir corner, so if you're interested, be sure to check it out. What attracted me was the words "WORKING IN SPACE," which are such a bold phrase. I'd love to work in space... My dream is to go to a place even further than space. Another favorite is the Passion 50th Anniversary patch . This was made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the messenger company Passion, which I've been really grateful to. Isn't it kind of emotional to have memories attached to each patch like this and add them to your bag as history? I hope that people who have messenger bags will keep these patches as memories.

・Introducing the contents of the bag①

First of all, it is a portable tool.

  • 15mm wrench
  • Ratchet handle
  • Hex wrench
  • Nipple wrench
  • 15mm socket
  • 17mm socket
  • Park Tool / Super patch
  • Tire lever

That's how it feels. I sometimes commute from home to work by bike, but there is a risk of a flat tire, so I can't do without a repair kit . Sometimes I carry a tube, but I find Park Tool patches very useful. A 15mm socket is essential because you remove the front wheel when packing your bike. It's about 70km from my house to my workplace, so I usually pack my bike on the train. I carry a 17mm socket for tricks because my fixed gear bike uses 17mm hub nuts. I always carry a nipple wrench for the fixed gear bike I use for tricks. After all, spokes can come loose when practicing tricks. By the way, the pouch I use to keep my tools in was given to me when I boarded Emirates Airlines.

As I mentioned earlier, I always pack my bike when I commute, so a bike bag is a must. I've been packing my bike for a long time, so these days I can pack it in the bag in less than three minutes. Someone, please challenge me to a time attack. I think I'm the only person who uses a bike bag for commuting, but with this, the range of travel by bike is greatly expanded, so even if you're not good at riding long distances, you can take your bike and go for fun far away, so I recommend it!

Another thing about packing my bike. When I'm on the train, I go as far as Harajuku, and when I'm packing my bike, I ride to Shinagawa (because I can get there in one train without having to change trains). I'm on the train for about an hour, and I kill time by reading. I just started reading Marcel Mauss's "The Gift" today, as I'm writing this blog. I love books, but I don't read books that focus on a specific novelist or a literary genre. I just read books that catch my eye. I read a different book every week, so if you want to talk about books with me, please come to the store lol. If you have any recommendations for books, please come to Tatsu's Harajuku store.

PC and camera for work. I carry them around because I often use a computer for writing blogs and other things. Cameras are one of my hobbies, but I also use photos I take myself, like on the Harajuku store's Instagram and on this blog, so they are also important work tools for me.

Grooming kit!!! If you're wondering what a grooming kit is, check out Gori's blog in the first bag introduction lol. I always use pomade from Wolfman , a barber shop in Harajuku that I frequent. Apparently they've recently released a new pomade, so I'm thinking of buying that one too. It's close to BROTURES Harajuku, and many of the stylists also ride fixed gear bikes, so why not drop by and check it out?

Some of you may wonder why I bring sneakers, but I use bindings on all my bikes except for the ones I use for tricks, so I bring sneakers as well. You can't work in binding shoes, after all. These shoes are a collaboration between VANS and Mongoose , and as someone who rides Mongoose bikes, I feel like I need to show off my feet like this, so I wear them. I'm always trying to show off to everyone around me, saying, "We're teaming up with Mongoose, after all. These aren't just 'ordinary VANS,' you funny-faced guys..."

SMITH Wildcat Matte Cerment ¥34,100

According to my own statistics, the fastest riders wear sunglasses (but sunglasses don't necessarily make you faster). I love using the Wildcat for races and everyday rides. When I was working at the Yokohama store, I saw it on display and fell in love with it at first sight. Thanks to a technology called Chromapop, I feel like I can see more clearly and my eyes don't get tired as easily. For more details, click here

BROTURES SILICON U-LOCK ¥4,400

You can't park your bike without a lock, not just in Tokyo. But I wanted to customize my U-lock in my own way, so I removed some of the silicone and stuck a sticker on it.

" We will be selling original stickers exclusive to Kichijoji! "

I chose the sticker that was included in the package. Orange is a nice color. My Mongoose is also orange.

-----------------------------------------------

This has gotten really long, but that's all. As Gori-san said in his blog, it seems like he has a strong attachment to his things. I think bags and belongings are a part of fashion, just like bikes. Have fun combining them in your own way and enjoy a better bike life!

"Coordinate in your own style"

"The attention to detail is important"

I wrote this blog to convey these two points. Please look forward to seeing whose bag I will introduce next time.
